  2. Google account - this will give you access to - gmail, document, calender, picasa (online picture storage) and many other tools offered by Google for free.

Anti-virus software


If you have a new laptop, you may need to install an anti-virus software, normally all new machines come with one anti-virus software but they run out after a 30 day trial period. AVG anti-virus is to free to use, you could download the installation pack from here: Free AVG anti-virus software

3. Getting started with Google


Google Account

Having a Google account gives you access to tools like Gmail, Google Calender, Google Docs, Google Reader and Blogger. These are some of the tools you'll be using in this course.

Why use Gmail?




Gmail is more then just email, you can do chat, talk and even video conferencing. Watch the video below to find out more.


To use Google Video and Talk you need to download and install a small package (one off install). You can download the package here.

4. Accessing Google Picasa

What is Picasa?


Google Picasa is a free online service for storing and sharing pictures. Google Picasa also has an offline package that you could download, this gives you video editing power before uploading the picture to Picasa. Picasa offers you 1 gig of storage space, you can buy more storage if needed. Download the offline client (optional you can use the web version).

To access Picasa via the web, the address is: www.picasaweb.google.com, login with your Google Username and Password.

What is blogging?
