The beginning.....

The newly re-designed CAME (Certificate in Automotive Mechanical Engineering) course went live this semester (Semester 1, 2010). This course showcases the symbiotic link between Wireless Mobile Devices (WMDs) and Web 2.0 tools (Google Apps) in facilitating a student-centred learning environment. This course is probably the first at Unitec that has implemented the key elements from the two key strategies, Living Curricula and the eLearning Strategy. The course uses Google Apps as the 'creative centre' for students and Moodle for managing students, course and attendance. The assessment in the course in centred around students creating an eportfolio. The biggest change we have noticed so far with the learner centred teaching environment is the move away from teacher content to student created content. Google tools that are used by students - Google Docs, Google Video (for collaboration), Gmail, Google Reader, Blogger (ePortfolio platform), Youtube (uploading videos) and Picasa (uploading pictures).
